Bio
Janine Smith is the University Archivist & Special Collections Registrar. She is responsible for developing and maintaining collections in the University Archives, creating, organizing and maintaining all records and documentation relating to the collections, and providing reference services and research support, as well as teaching and instruction with SCA collections and in the Loyola First Year Seminar program.
Janine is a Certified Archivist (Academy of Certified Archivists) and is actively involved in local and regional library and archival organizations. She is an enrolled citizen of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation, which informs her professional interests in cultural preservation, oral histories, social justice, information literacy, and teaching about Indigenous culture. Janine has presented her research on tribal college libraries and digitization at the Quantitative and Qualitative Methods in Libraries Conference in London. She has previously worked as a supervising archivist, community college librarian, and a secondary English teacher.
