Organization of American Historians Donate Books to Loyola Rayburn!

By Loyola University on Tue, 04/16/2024 - 10:27

OAH Book Bridge Program 2024

The Organization of American Historians' Book Bridge Program encourages exhibitors at their conference to donate display books to local public libraries, colleges and universities. This year, the conference was held April 11-14 at the New Orleans Mariott. Loyola Rayburn was chosen to receive the donation.

Loyola University New Orleans offers for-credit, in-person classes to approximately 40 students at Rayburn Correctional Center in Angie, Louisiana. The university strives to bring the full Loyola experience to the prison, including library resources and information literacy. Loyola faculty from the Monroe Library and other departments have been working to expand the academic offerings in Rayburn’s on-site library.

Laurie Phillips, University Librarian of Information Resources, and Stephanie Gaskill, a Fellow at the Jesuit Social Research Institute, where she assist with JSRI's Prison Education as Program Director, picked up over 20 boxes of American History books in brand new condition. They will assess the books for Rayburn's collection and bring them up to Washington Parish along with more shelving!
