Media Services provides videoconferencing for classes and meetings. Connections can be made in real time with people almost anywhere in the world.
How is videoconferencing used at universities?
Initially, educators used videoconferencing to give people in remote locations the chance to attend classes at urban colleges. While bringing together students and faculty who ordinarily can't meet "in person" is still one of its primary uses, the increasing prevalence of this technology has opened up new doors:
- A noted professor or professional in a field can meet with students as a guest lecturer.
- Students can interview with prospective employers, graduate programs, internships or other organizations across the globe.
- Faculty, staff and administrators can meet with colleagues to do research, consultation, planning or conduct small conferences.
Our Equipment + Rooms
Media Services has a portable videoconferencing system that can be used in any room on campus that has an Ethernet connection. We also have a dedicated videoconferencing room in the library that can accommodate up to fourteen participants.
We also oversee videoconferencing in two classrooms in the Communications/Music complex, both of which seat up to thirty-five people.
