Student Laptop Loan

Currently enrolled Loyola students may borrow laptops from Learning Commons Desk. The library offers 20 Dell laptops running Windows XP and 4 new MacBooks running OS X 10.5 Leopard operating system.

All loaner laptops offer software for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations, as well as wireless Internet connectivity.

Dell Laptops

The Dell laptops are loaded with Microsoft Office 2000, Roxio Easy CD Creator, Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, Quicktime, Real Player, Windows Movie Maker, Microsoft FrontPage. The laptops are configured to work with other equipment, such as digital cameras also available for checkout at the Learning Commons Desk. Laptop locks are included at the time of checkout. Ask the LC desk assistant for the combination.

The MacBooks

These laptops come with Microsoft Office 2008, Safari and Firefox, as well as a host of other applications, including: Audacity, FileZilla, Garageband, Handbrake, iPhoto, iMovie, iWeb, Sketchup, and VLC Media Player. Laptop locks are available for checkout at the desk. (Checkout the new custom cases with the Monroe Library logo!)

Policies & Procedures:

  • Laptops and chargers may be checked out from the Learning Commons (LC) Desk on a walk-in, first-come, first-served basis.
  • The loan period is a four hours.
  • A student’s Loyola ID is required at checkout.
  • Laptops, chargers, cables, and laptop carrying cases will be returned to the LC Desk.
  • As always, please do not leave files on the hard drive; they will be erased.
  • The overdue fine for student laptops is $10 per hour and the replacement fee is $2,500.
  • We strongly encourage the use of laptop locks which are available for loan at the LC Desk.
