Listening Carrels

Users of the Monroe Library may listen to music CDs and DVDs on any public computer. Headphones are available for checkout at the Learning Commons desk, or bring your own.

If you are interested in listening to an audio cassette or a phonograph record (aka LP, vinyl), the library offers two music listening carrels located at the back of the first floor of the library.

Each carrel is equipped with a turntable, CD player, and cassette player. You may use your own headphones or you may check out headphones and an adapter from the Learning Commons desk.

Library users may check out a carrel for 4 hours from the Learning Commons desk with a Loyola ID or cooperative borrower’s card.

Overdue fines accrue every 15 minutes. Users will be charged $.50 every 15 minutes, $2.00 an hour, and $25 a day. A $35 replacement fee will be charged for a lost key.

How to open the listening carrel:

  • Unlock the front panel and open the doors.
  • Reach under the top panel and unlock the left and right latches.
  • Slowly and carefully fold back the top panel cover.
  • Push the left and right panels into the carrel; you’re now ready to listen.

How to close the listening carrel:

  • Pull the left and right panels out of the carrel.
  • Slowly fold down the top panel cover.
  • Reach under the top panel and lock the left and right latches.
  • Close the front doors, and lock the carrel. (You may have to shimmy the top panel to get the doors to lock.)
