  • Fri, July 16th at 10 am

Printing at the Library

This blog posting does not have current information; email for updated information.

In an effort to improve library services and encourage smart use of library resources, we have moved the printers behind the Learning Commons Desk. The move will help us service the printers efficiently so that everyone’s printing needs will be met as smoothly as possible. We want to be sure that everyone can print what they need for their academic work at Loyola, but we also want to contain printing costs and reduce waste!
The printing policy is now in effect and we thank you for collaborating with us!  See below for details.
Please let us know if you have any questions.   And check in next week for paper-saving tips!

Monroe Library Printing Policy

Our goals:

  • Ensure smart use of library and campus resources
  • Reduce waste
  • Trouble-shoot and maintain printers more quickly
  • Promote responsible printing

What is responsible printing?

-Think before you ink!  Use print preview to double check your work and ensure that you’re only printing what you need.

-The printing of articles, reserve materials, papers, notes and other work that supports Loyola course assignments, academic projects and research are permitted.

-When printing PowerPoint slides, please print 6 slides per page.  Users should also use black text on white background.  For instructions on how to responsibly print PowerPoint presentations, ask at the LC desk.  Multiple copies are not permitted.

-The printing of handouts, flyers, invitations, advertisements, and announcements is not permitted under any circumstance.  Users who wish to print multiple copies of any document may make photocopies or visit Printing Services in Room 236 of Monroe Hall.

Thank you for partnering with us to help achieve our goals for responsible printing in the Monroe Library.

Yet more Blackboard Maintenance

It is that time of year again when we try to make all of the changes to the system to make sure next year goes as smoothly as possible.

On Sunday, June 20th, Blackboard will be unavailable from 2:30am until 10:30am, while our server is migrated to a new data center. Once this is complete, blackboard should see faster performance and greater reliability.  Please plan for this outage accordingly.

Blackboard Maintenance Friday, June 11th, 2010

On Friday, June 11th, 2010 between the hours of 02:00 am to 06:00 am US Eastern, Blackboard will be performing preventative maintenance at our server. The maintenance is to ensure the health of our systems and infrastructure. This maintenance is not expected to be service impacting however we are performing the work during the regular weekly maintenance window to minimize any potential risk of service interruption.

Blackboard Outage for Preventative Maitenance May 13th

Our Blackboard system will be undergoing preventative maintenance during the early morning on May 13th. We expect Blackboard to be unavailable from approximately 11pm on May 12th until 7am on May 13th. While this falls during the semester break, and should not affect many users, please plan accordingly.

Reminder: don't leave your valuables unattended

Please don’t leave your valuables unattended while you’re studying in the library. It only takes a second for someone to walk away with your laptop, cell phone, textbook, or backpack.

Laptop cable locks are available for checkout at the Learning Commons Desk, and for sale at the Loyola Bookstore.

Good luck on your finals and have a wonderful summer.

Change to Bb Sync iPhone app

Anyone currently using the Blackboard Sync app on their iPhone or iPod touch may have noticed that the service was recently removed.  Blackboard decided to develop an entirely new app, Bb Learn, rather than continue service on the existing Bb Sync. We are aiming to have this app available to Loyola students when the new school year begins in August 2010.

I recently saw the app, and you will just have to believe me when I tell you that it is worth the wait. More than the (lets be honest) glorified RSS reader that was Sync, Bb learn allows for whole new levels of interactivity and customization will allow you to perform just about any function of Bb on your mobile device.
