Noise + Cell Phones

The J. Edgar & Louise S. Monroe is a dynamic library that offers its users a wide array of services and materials. The Monroe facility includes unique learning and teaching spaces. To ensure that our users can make the most of all that the Monroe library has to offer, we have developed a noise policy to balance the needs of our users who require quiet study and those who work in a collaborative mode with their fellow learners.

Library Cell Phone Policy

  • Upon entering the library individuals are asked to turn their cell phones ringers off.
  • Brief cell phone conversations (at a reasonable volume) are permitted on the first floor of the library.
  • Cell phone conversations are not permitted on the second and third floors. These areas are designated as quiet study areas.
  • Please report any disturbances to the circulation desk (x7111). The phones in each photocopy room automatically connect to the circulation desk.
