BIO

Jim Hobbs has been part of the Monroe Library and Loyola University since 1989. His primary work is administering online information services used by Loyola students and faculty. Jim also assists those doing library research, supervises the interlibrary loan service, and teaches information literacy. He works most closely with students and faculty in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Studies, Mathematics, Physics, and the Psychological Sciences.

In the library, Jim is leader of the Information Resources Team and the Interlibrary Loan/Distance Library Services. He is also a member of the Librarian Liaisons, the Library Rank and Tenure Committee, the Teaching and Learning Team, the Technology Team, and the Web Team. Currently is a member of the University Conciliation Committee, the Facilities Planning Committee/University Space Allocation Committee, the Fringe Benefits Committee, and the Standing Council on Academic Planning.

His professional honors include membership in the library honor society Beta Phi Mu, and the LOUIS Users Group 2016 Discussion List Guru Award. He's a supporter of open access, including free and open textbooks, and the scholarly publication system. His spring 1997 sabbatical project was a discography of commercially-released Cajun, Louisiana Creole and zydeco music.

His reviews of educational films appear in EMRO. Jim is also an engineer and substitute show host for community radio station WWOZ-FM.
