You should use ILLiad to track the status of your requests, cancel requests and renew materials online!

To become an ILLiad user, create an account by clicking on the "first time users" link on the ILLiad main page. You must select a username and password. You'll only need to do this once. If you forget your username and password, contact the interlibrary loan office at intlloan@loyno.edu.

What Is Interlibrary Loan?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service through which books, articles and other materials not owned by Loyola University Libraries may be requested from other libraries or commercial document suppliers.

top

What Does It Cost?

There is no charge for Interlibrary Loan requests.

top

Who Is Eligible?

ILL is available to Loyola faculty, students, and staff engaged in scholarly research. Law students and faculty are required to use services provided by the Law Library.

top

How Long Does It Take To Receive Materials?

The length of time involved in obtaining material varies considerably, and cannot be guaranteed. Articles can arrive within two to five days, but may take longer. Books can be expected to arrive within two to three weeks, but may take longer. Special requests for RUSH service may be honored. Contact the Interlibrary Loan service at 864-7137 or intlloan@loyno.edu or check at the reference desk.

What Other Types Of Material Can Interlibrary Loan Provide?

In addition to books and articles, ILL makes every effort to obtain:

Dissertations & Theses

For a variety of reasons, it may be difficult to borrow a copy of a thesis or dissertation. Check with the Interlibrary Loan Coordinator to see if the item you want is available, or for information about other ways to obtain this type of material.

Rare Books & Manuscripts

Libraries rarely loan rare books or manuscripts. More frequently, they will provide photocopies or microfilm of the material. Interlibrary Loan will process these requests and may pass any direct costs to patrons.

Government Documents

Some libraries will loan federal or state government documents. Check with the Interlibrary Loan office before submitting a request.

What Cannot Be Borrowed Through Interlibrary Loan?

Material in Loyola's Collection

Due to restrictions outlined in the National Interlibrary Loan Code, we are unable to accept requests for materials that are owned by the Loyola University Library. These include books on reserve, books checked out, and non-circulating material. We will request books that have been declared lost or copies of articles from journals that are missing or at the bindery.

top

How To Submit A Request:

Before filling out a request, be sure to check the library's online catalog to make sure Loyola doesn't own the material you need.

ILL requests must be submitted through ILLiad. ILLiad is a web-based system that allows you to create your own interlibrary loan account and easily requests books, articles and other items that are not owned by Loyola's library. You can even use ILLiad to track the status of your requests, edit requests and renew materials online!

To become an ILLiad user, create an account by clicking on the "first time users" link on the ILLiad main page. You must select a username and password. You'll only need to do this once. If you forget your username and password, contact the interlibrary loan office at intlloan@loyno.edu.

How Will I Be Notified?

You will be notified by phone, mail or e-mail as soon as your material is received. Items may be picked up at the Circulation Desk. Due dates for books are set by the lending library. Overdue fines are $1.00 per day. Photocopies of articles need not be returned.

top

May Interlibrary Loan Material Be Renewed?

Requests for renewals must be made through ILLiad at least one day before books are due. Renewals cannot be requested more than one week before the due date and are granted at the discretion of the lending library.

How To Return Materials

Materials must be returned directly to the circulation desk on the first floor of the Monroe Library. Overdue fines are $1.00 a day. DO NOT use the book drop to return interlibrary loan books.
